TLD Toowoomba 2 Day

Great to see the entries rolling in, but am sure after this painful stint of weather and all local racing been cancelled this weekend and not sure what the weather will bring next week everyone should be keen to race. TLD TOOWOOMBA 2 DAY will still be taking entries although closes midnight tonight and open until Tuesday with late fee. Don't pay the late fee Get Your Entry In Today. Everyone was asking for more racing so support the clubs that are organizing the racing for you, come and race the new track for 2 great days of racing.

Anyone know how far it would be from the final hairpin corner to the finish line, - it looks like about 300 meters? Photo opportunities would be best on the hairpin, but it is a long way to trek back and forth to the finish line all day. icon_sadicon_sad

Circuit looks nice and clean free of annoying poles and normal street circuit clutter icon_biggrin

from past experience its a little over the 300m mark, best photo ops would be a the bottom of the finish "rise" & near the club house.

OK thanks for the tips, the humidity in Gympie is killing me at the moment, must be hell for the riders.

Should have mentioned there is seating on the finial corner, plus the track isn't as big as it looks to walk around.

I only raced yesterday but should have today as well, great event, well run and organised, thanks to all TCC volunteers and CQ officials. I also wanted to let the TCC members/committee who were involved in getting the track up and running know that they should be immensely proud of their efforts, it really is a fantastic facility and a real credit to all involved. I look forward to hopefully getting back up there for some club crit races during the year.

Best wishes,

Jason

TLD Toowoomba 2 Day

Race Reports From the TLD 2 Day:

Saturday saw all riders in Critrium mode, competing on the Toowoomba Critrium Circuit on a shortened 1100m "hotdog" track, yet again highlighting the versatility of this premium purpose built circuit.
Sunday all comers were back plus a few more, with the circuit extended to include the high speed sweeper & uphill loop for the Kermesse racing.
Weather was picture perfect over the course of the weekend albeit a little hot, with the rain gods allowing the Elite A riders to complete their racing before the deluge was released.
The concensus from the majority of the riders, spectators & officals was that the TLD 2 Day has done a outstanding job in taking over from the previous incarnation of the Oakey 2 Day.
Racing from all grades was intense with high speeds & high risk, unfortunately with the later came a few spills, TCC & TLD wish all riders that sustained an injury a speedy recovery.
The highlight for the weekend was undoubtly the Elite A Kermesse, with QAS team mates David Edwards & Jordan Kerby, taking the bull by the horns & lapping the entire Elite A field which included quite a few big names in SE Qld cycing.
Other notable mentiones were TCC riders Aaron Hay*** & Harvey Silk taking the Saturday/Sunday Double & Joshua Watson also completed the double in under 17 which also saw him take 2nd place in the Masters B Kermesse overall. Mainline racing also asserted their dominance once again in Masters A filling the podium both days.

I was actually a little disappointed in the numbers that showed up on Sunday for B grade (14).
What kept everyone away?
Was there another big local event on or is the 2 hour drive just too far?
It certainly should not be the track or the faciities which are awesome.

also whilst we are asking questions, why were there so many serious accidents/mishaps over the weekend considering the quality of the circuit....

I'm not the race director but the few people I spoke to regarding why they were/weren't coming pointed more to the number of races on early in the year & obviously the costs associated with them. Riders can afford to be a bit choosier. There was also a MTB race in Toowoomba that is part of a 6 race series, a few guys that would normally ride road opted to ride that. Also the only grade numbers were low was B Grade, perhaps a few riders have moved up or down. As far as crashes, a couple were mechanical apparently the masters B/C crit accident was caused by a riders tub rolling off the rim, I can only assume Sunday could have been attributed to some fatigue & some inexperience. Unfortunately it's a risk we all take when we line up. Hopfully all involved heal quickly.
